One of our favorite car activities is listening to stories and poems on CD. We particularly like ones that are read by the author, like Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. We love the poem "18 flavors", and decided to have a bit of fun with it. There is nothing quite like being able to recite a poem from memory.
18 luscious flavors, scrumptious flavors-
chocolate, lime and cherry, coffee, pumpkin, fudge-banana,caramel cream, and boysenberry, rocky road and toasted almond, butterscotch, vanilla dip,butter-brickle, apple ripple, coconut and mocha chip, brandy peach and lemon custard, each scoop lovley, smooth, and round, tallest icecream cone in town, lying there (sniff) on the ground.
First, we read through all 18 flavors and made a tally mark under the color we thought each flavor should be.
Next we cut out a brown cone shape and 18 scoops of ice cream out of construction paper in the chosen colors. Matias wrote the name of each flavor on the scoops. He worked SO hard...note the tongue sticking out in concentration.
We added a cherry on the top and voila! 18, luscious, scrumptious flavors.
How fun! What an awesome idea! :) Thanks for linking it up and taking part in the Play to Write Series! :) See you tomorrow! :)
